Goddamn it, Jim!” Dr. McCoy shouts, storming off the bridge, and Spock can’t help but wonder a little bit. He considers the situation, comes up with a question, and turns around.

He waits until the crew has finished laughing and Kirk is sprawling in his beloved chair again. His recently injured leg is propped up on a stool. The doctor is correct, technically, when he feels anger towards their captain for not resting and instead coming to the bridge to look over everything as if everything was in its usual order.

Spock approaches smoothly. He stands by Kirk’s side, hands behind his back. “Captain?”

Kirk glances at him. There’s a tiny smile on his lips. “Are you going to yell at me as well?”

“No. I would merely like to know why Dr. McCoy keeps insulting you despite both of you claiming to be friends. I have not encountered this behaviour before.”

“Oh, that.” Kirk waves a hand around, dismissive, and looks back at the galaxy before them. “It’s our way of saying that we love each other. Some human males aren’t that good with expressing love, platonic or otherwise, so he yells at me and I give him nicknames.”

“I see,” Spock says. He doesn’t ask another question. After his shift is over, he goes to have dinner and makes a decision.

When Kirk comes limping onto the bridge at 0700 the next morning, Spock is already next to his chair. He gives Kirk time to sit down, clears his throat then. Kirk lifts a brow. “Yes?”

“Goddamn it, captain,” Spock says.

The silence is stunning. Nobody moves. Kirk is staring at him, mouth open, fingers tight around the rests of his chair. Spock shifts lightly. When nothing happens, he inclines his head, turns, and walks back to his station.

It’s another minute before the bridge breaks out into confused whispers, and James Tiberius Kirk starts laughing. “Damn you too, Spock,” he says over the whistles from Sulu and Uhura’s muffled giggle. “All of you be damned.”

Vulcans, as is known around the discovered universe with absolute certainty, do not gossip.

Their language famously lacks a word to so much as describe the unnecessary activity, and a true Vulcan will reject any other species’ attempts at engaging in such behavior with them. That of course includes the decimated population of New Vulcan in the same way as it did everyone on the former home planet.

Even though the aforementioned facts are without a doubt and undeniably true, the arrival of a certain Captain Kirk with the Enterprise crew and his First Officer of Vulcan descent, a now well-known Spock on planet New Vulcan seems to have triggered some phenomenon similar to the Humans’ slang of gossip

Strangely enough, the phenomenon only began towards the end of the welcome ceremony and after Kirk had greeted every member of the newly established high council with surprising politeness and respect towards traditions, his First Officer only ever a few steps away, giving the ta’al when required.

But just as the Captain and Commander were in the process of striding towards Spock’s father, waiting for them at the entrance to the high council’s new residence, it happened.

Spock reached for Kirk’s hand.

The Vulcan crowd held their breath. Everything went absolutely silent.

Kirk greeted Sarek with a simple nod, and showed no sign of surprise when Spock’s ring finger curled around his Captain’s thumb in a clearly familiar gesture. Not even Sarek seemed fazed by such public indecency. Before anyone could inquire the meaning of this, the Captain and Commander vanished inside the building. Sarek followed, but gave a last look over his shoulder towards the stunned crowd, raising an eyebrow.

“I assume that the customs of appropriate public displays of affection towards one’s t’hy’la have not changed with our new planet.”

Then the door slid close behind him.

Vulcans do most definitely not gossip, but even Spock struggled, albeit with an amused smile, to find a fitting term for the enthusiasm with which a touch of two hands and the story of a logically illogical bond were discussed among the population of New Vulcan for two months after the Enterprise’s departure.

Through the blur of stars and galaxies flying past the windows of the ship, his home, the polished chrome that brings him to new worlds, Spock’s lips first press out a stiff word to address his new superior, a cold sound of: “Captain.”

When they leave a horrible planet full of carefully hidden war-thirst bursting all over them before the silver beam takes them back onto the ship, Spock stumbles to carry a bleeding body to the sickbay, slamming into the room to glare at the doctor, desperation simmering underneath his mask, a nod to the shaking man in his arms: “Kirk. He is – please do something.”

As their life falls into a routine of chess matches and writing reports side by side, the silence when fingers glide onto Spock’s shoulder and squeeze, tentative and shy, Spock looks up and says, soft as he didn’t know he could: “Jim.”

And as Jim’s life-worn fingertips, bruised so many times and healed even more, fall against Spock’s, his mind roars and trembles in bright, golden reverence. The only word that matters then, with Jim’s skin against his own and their breaths melting into one, is:
“T’hy’la.”

And, to that, Jim says in the indestructibly laced net of their minds:
“For a lifetime.”

“Spock, I have a theory. Hear me out. I know why you hate being touched.”

“I had assumed that you were aware of Vulcans being touch-telepaths, Captain.”

“Nah, that’s not what I mean. This is much more fun. Also, you let me touch you if it’s just your shoulder or arm or something. I thought about it, and I know why.”

“Do you? Enlighten me, then, as you seem to be an expert on Vulcan – “

“You’re ticklish.”

“…that is by far the most illogical thing you have uttered all day. Fascinating.”

“And I can prove it. C’mere, lemme just – “

“Captain, cease doing this immediately. I forbid you to – take your fingers off my ears this instant. Jim, if you do not – “

“Aww, you’re fidgeting, that’s kinda cute – wait. What was that?! …Spock?”

“…c-cease touching me this instant.”

“Spock, did you just purr?”

“I did no such thing. If you would excuse me – Jim, do not – Jim.”

“Wow. I had no idea Vulcans like to be pet like this. Do that noise again – aww.”

“We do not. This is an exception since you are the one touching me.”

“Wait. D’you mean you only purr for me? Don’t just go! Hey, Spock!”

“This conversation is over.”

“Uh-huh, sure. You know, you were adorable just now. Hey, wait for me!”

spockfucker:

i know i said that i wouldn’t draw any more hot rebel spock comics but i lied :T ngl i just wanted to draw spock smoking and kirk being super cute

I am so in love with this. So much. Everything about this is gorgeous and wonderful and I keep re-reading this comic far too often.

“Spock, I gotta tell you something. Uhm, so. Here goes. I love – “

“I am aware of your romantic feelings towards Lieutenant Uhura. Furthermore, I think I clarified that I am in no relationship with her, implying that you are free to attempt to court her or what ever technique you prefer to – “

“What the – no! That’s literally absolutely not what I wanted… listen, just listen!”

“ – I cannot explain why this particular topic evokes an emotional response within me. I need to go meditate on this. Was that everything, Captain?”

“No, it wasn’t! It’s not Uhura, you dumbass, Jesus Christ, you’re so goddamn – “

“There is no need to insult me, Captain – “

“It’s you! Fuck, it’s you, alright, I love you, you dumb pointy-eared oaf!”

“…pardon?”

“You heard me. Superior half-Vulcan ears, I’m aware. I’m gonna go now, before this gets any more awkward. So, uh, you wanted to meditate or somethin’.”

“Am I wrong in my assumption that one would usually wait for a reply?”

“Huh? A – jeez, well, maybe I don’t wanna hear how much you don’t like me, okay? I just wanna go, forget that this ever happened, okay?”

“Negative. The feeling is mutual.”

“…what the fuck?”

“I suggest we relocate ourselves into my quarters and you perform a typical human kiss that usually follows after a romantic confession. Is that adequate?”

“Hell yeah. Lead the way.”

“Very well. …and please do not hold my hand in public, Capt – Jim.”

bergzerk:

happy birthday moami!! hope it was a good one, and thanks for dragging me back into star trek, hahaha ❤

moa wrote this cute drabble that inspired this drawing! ((moa writes so much good stuff, go take a look!!!))

This happens when I re-watch Star Trek: 2009 and STID. Suddenly, I am helplessly lost in this eternal ship called Spirk that could be my parents, and I am screaming at the wonderful berg about how perfect they are.

And Berg, this incredibly cool person, does Spirk art for my birthday and makes me fly right off my chair because I just lost my breath, okay, I fucking lost it. Can you find anything in this that is not perfect, because I cannot.

From Spock’s ADORABLY nervous blushy expression to their POSE (piggy back rides forever. I am dead. D e a d.) to their injuries and Jim’s cheeky, cute smile. Everything about this is wonderful. And Berg is amazing, a great friend and I just want to thank him for this and everything that there was and is to come. LLAP, my friend. ♥ You are – wow. You are just special. ❤

His regular medical examination goes without incident until the doctor takes a deep breath. Since this is a typical human indicator of the wish to share information, Spock says: “Yes?” He makes sure to raise his voice in question.

The doctor makes a thoughtful noise, and Spock detects a hint of pity in his expression. “Damn, I’m sorry. I know it ain’t nice for you to be touched by someone else, but we gotta – “

“I am aware that examinations are an important part of maintaining the crew’s health.”

McCoy nods. “Well, yeah. But – I mean.” He shrugs a bit and runs a hand through his hair. “Especially when I look at your hands, ‘s gotta be uncomfortable, right? Isn’t that like a kiss? You know, humans kiss differently – “

Spock raises an eyebrow. “The mechanics of human intimacy are not unfamiliar to me, Doctor. You do not need to lecture me. And your touch does not cause me any physical or mental harm, as it is purely professional.”

“Right.” McCoy takes a step back, the pity having vanished from his face.

After he has dressed himself and is almost out of the sickbay’s door, Spock turns around once more. “Do not worry about my knowledge considering the part of human sexuality that you refer to as ‘kissing’. The Captain’s private lessons have been very effective, and they still are every night, if I may say so.”

Spock may or may not be smiling to himself when he hears the doctor curse in a thick Southern accent as soon as he leaves the sickbay. Another lesson awaits.
