Academia and science are basically just asking a lot of questions, finding maybe one answer once, thinking that you know nothing compared to everyone else while everyone else thinks they know nothing either, and citing your goddamn sources.
a song called ‘disco inferno’ just came up on my dash and i automatically registered it as “i learn by means of hell” before i realised the title was actually english and not latin
“I learn by means of hell,” forthcoming rap album from Doctor Faustus
When we figured out that’s what Disco Inferno meant (we translated it as “I learn through suffering”), it became the motto of our Latin class at college, and the unofficial motto of my undergrad.
The only way to learn is by hell
if you think about it, falling from heaven and rising from hell are the same thing.
“Somewhere beyond the sea, somewhere, waiting for me, my lover stands on golden sands and watches the ships that go sailing.”
It’s an advertisement for rum and I would still watch a full-length movie of this. Tell me the age-old tale of the monster that brought the wrath of the darkest seas over anyone who had hurt the creatures of the sea.
Keep your friends close, your enemies closer, and the ancient god you once summoned while googling Latin words right in your heart.
